I like way too much music to give everybody equal justice, so I'll just say: The Clash, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, the Beastie Boys, Mos Def, those are probably the ones I always go to when I need something to make me feel a little different. Of course, I effin' listen to punk rock music, and shake my bootie to 60s psych/garage rock, and you're darn tootin' I listen to country music, especially Willie, Hank, Merle, and Cash. I thank God for Soul music. I also like the hip hop and rap music. And I crave live, local music, but Ihave yet to find an adequate fix down here in the RGV.
Afraid to say because I'm scared of movie snobs. But Dr. Strangelove was genius and Woody Allen is my guilty pleasure; Mystery Train (isn't Joe Strummer beautiful?); Don't Look Back (I just want to be in the presence of Bob Dylan as much as possible); and the movies I must watch at least once a year: Valley Girl (Nick Cage as a young, Hollywood punk rocker - who wouldn't fall in love with that?); Dazed and Confused (Got me through High School); Pretty in Pink (She should have stuck with Ducky and I saw Andrew McCarthy getting Pizza in NYC!); The Big Lebowski (brilliant)
Boston Legal, Futurama, others that are too embarrassing too say
The Autobiography of Malcolm X, anything by Joan Didion (I wish I could write like that), Grapes of Wrath, Been Down so Long it Looks Like Up to Me, Hell's Angels (the only Hunter S. Thompson book where his ego didn't get in the way), To Kill a Mockingbird
