Generally a solo artist, Alice has been performing around Canberra since the very tender age of thirteen. Now 26, Alice has enveloped herself in playing and writing to her hearts content.
Alice describes her style as a mix of folk rock, roots, jazz & blues. Her first EP 'Goodbye Winter' was released early 2008, which she toured up the Australian east coast in support of the Andi & George Band's 'Sun & Moon' tour. The Andi & George Band (of which she was also a voice) were the most popular band at Woodford Dreaming festival 2008, and also appeared at Woodford 2008/09 & WOMADelaide 2009.
'Goodbye Winter' is available for purchase at The Front Cafe in Lyneham, Smiths Alternative Bookshop in the City, and Satis Cafe in Watson. If you'd like to purchase online please visit www.cardboardcharlie.com.
Alice’s live performances are at times hypnotizing, with a voice as smooth as velvet and dark as the underground. Don’t be surprised if Alice dons one of her ‘characters’ either – the raunchy ‘Candy Goodthighs’ has been an audience favorite.
Her music is melodic and lyrically raw. It is literary - full of stories, sometimes dark, always emotional. She writes from relationships, love and life; her songwriting is cathartic. With influences including Joni Mitchell, Johnny Cash and Tom Waits, you can be sure to be whisked away without having to leave your chair…
Some other 'career' highlights include playing solo at WOMADelaide 2009, supporting Jackie Marshall in 2008, winning the Pot Belly Go Solo competition in 2005 and supporting Tim Rogers and the Temperance Union in Canberra on their 2004 Spit Polish tour.
Oh yeah, then there was that choir gig at the Sydney Opera House back in '94.....Singing the fable of Jonah & the Whale is definitely something Alice would like to revisit. Folk style.
