Originally from Atlanta, GA, Saycon Sengbloh began performing as a teenager in plays and musicals at Tri-Cities School for Visual and Performing Arts. After several productions with the Freddie Hendrick's Youth Ensemble of Atlanta (YEA), she played Ellen in Tyler Perry's first musical play, "I Know I've Been Changed." Saycon toured with the Equity National tour of "Rent," as the seductive lead "Mimi." And has performed on Broadway in 'Elton John and Tim Rice's AIDA" in the title role.Saycon became the first African-American actress to perform on Broadway the role of Elphaba in "Wicked," She originated the role of Nettie in Atlanta in the world premiere of the Color Purple the musical and later joined the Broadway cast for a 6 week special engagement and performed the role of Celie for several shows in the Broadway production. Also a film and television actress, Saycon can be seen in American Gangster, Funny Valentines, Across the Universe, and many commercials. She recently filmed the pilot for "The Prince of Motorcity" helmed by the director of "Lost" Jack Bender! Look for her as Nurse Peltzer in this season of "Law & Order". Saycon was seen this summer as the first black female president "Abraham Lincoln" in the Public theatre's Broadway bound revival of Hair! And Saycon Sengbloh will be featured in the February 2009 issue of Vogue magazine! Her musical influences include Sade, Mariah Carey, Frank Sinatra, Prince, and Vanity 6!
