Hans De Coninck

About Me

Hello ! My name is Hans De Coninck, born in the wonderful year 1978, on the 17th of September. I started at the school of music when I was quite young… I’ve done some years of flute and piano. But ever since I was a little boy, I was very interested in the rhythmic of music. (my grandfather was a drummer too ;-)) So when I was fourteen I bought my first drum kit. It was a Sonorus, a Belgian brand of drum sets. I didn’t play very long with that set! It was real crap. My parents bought me a bigger set, a double Yamaha power V special… That was nice, since I was only playing for one year! In the mean time I used my knowledge of my classical music studies to develop my drumming skills. As everybody knows, being able to play good is more important than the set one uses. I went to a private drumming teacher for a couple of years as well. I learnt from an older jazz-drummer from the neighbourhood (a Gretch round badge player!). These lessons brought me lots of technique so it definitely was worth the cost. I have always been searching for the right drum set for me… So some of the kits that I have been playing are: Sonor Force, Sonor swinger, a Mapex, some Yamaha’s, a few Pearl’s, a couple of Vintage kits, a DW FinishPly set. For the moment I play on a combination of Pearl Masterworks / Masters Custom Extra and K Zildjian cymbals. I used to play in different bands when I was younger. In October 2006 I met some nice musicians! I was immediately sold for their sound. Then I managed to persuade my brother-in-law (bass-player of different bands like Guernica which singer is now a member of Red Zebra and Colours) to start the new project. But in the summer of 2008 it was time to begin something new ! We had a great time with U-turn, lots of fun and gigs, but it was time to move on! Now we are busy working on new songs and we will perform as much as possible with Cookies for Breakfast. Besides that my brother-in-law and I are learning more about studiorecording and sound engeneering. We follow some courses to expand our knowledge. I helped to build my brother-in-law's studio that turned out to be a nice recording studio with control room and top gear like Presonus-Alesis-Cubase-Shure-AKG stuff ;-) Now we can have some real fun! Courses: Noise Gate: Homerecording, Gitaaronderhoud en afstelling met Kristof Braekman, Versterkeronderhoud en customizing, Drumonderhoud, Syntra West: Electricity and Sound. Vdab: Elektronica !Busy working on new projects ! - - -!

Jaja, Red Zebra blijft super. Geweldig optreden, daarna nog een kwartiertje met de drummer, Johan Isselee gesproken en ook met de bassist en backing vocalist Sam Claeys. Deze laatste is in mijn ogen ...
