Songwriting is a great way to sort through experiences, make some sort of sense of them and create something that wasn’t there a minute ago. There’s a great metaphor in “writing down the bones” where the writers mind is compared to a compost heap. Time, heat and organic decomposition convert everyday experiences (and more important ones too) into the ultimate food for growth. It seems like my favorite songs write themselves and what a great feeling. The only thing better is to hear whats been growing in another garden.
