About Kahua Music
Kahua Music is based in the north-east of England and is headed up by Ian Straker. Born in 1979, Ian graduated from Loughbrough University in 2006 with a BSc and PhD. While at university Ian became involved with the university radio station where he worked as Head of Dance Music and also organised several events including ‘World DJ Fund 2003’, for which he received the Student Union’s ‘Outstanding Volunteer of the Year’ award. Ian set up Kahua Music as a record store with Daniel Sudron in 2005 and after graduating moved back to the North-East where Kahua is now based. Kahua's promotion and publishing sections were formed in early 2008. Kahua provides specialist services in the areas of promotion and publishing, with a focus on dance music and specifically underground house.
Ian is also label manager and A&R for Lost My Dog Records, which was set up in Spring 2005 with partners Peter Morgan and Najan Ward. Lost My Dog is a well respected label releasing records which range in style from deep to tech house and taking in elements of soulful, jacking and acid house. Lost My Dog has received support from the most influential magazines including iDJ and DJ Mag, leading radio stations such as Radio 1, Dinamo FM and Ministry of Sound, and is regularly in the boxes/CD wallets/laptops of the world’s leading club DJs.
Kahua Music Promotions
Kahua provides promotional services to record labels and artists. We focus on 'tastemaker' promotions and offer a comprehensive service targeting the leading international specialist radio, press and club DJs within dance music. We work predominantly within the house music genre and have a specialism in the area of deep- and tech-house.

Kahua Music Publishing
Kahua works with songwriters to collect royalties due from the use of their copyrights and to find licensing opportunities to generate further income. We work mainly within dance music with a specific focus on house. Our role as a music publisher is to register the works of songwriters and composers, monitor usage and collect royalties. We also promote composers and songwriters to those who use music on a commercial basis such as performers, broadcasters, record companies, advertisers, TV and film producers and computer game developers.
