There are people online who say that people in VN have freedom and democracy, and that they are happy even though VN is not a wealthy country. They added that the VN government is working hard to make the country better by joining the WTO and UN.

Deputy FM: Viet Nam ready for UN Security Council Mission

Viet Nam is ready for a non-permanent member seat on the UN Security Council, said Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh.
In an interview with the "The Gioi va Viet Nam" (The World and Viet Nam) magazine for its special issue, Deputy FM Minh spoke about the significance of Viet Nam's candidacy for the country's foreign policy in particularly and its national development in general.
According to the Deputy FM, the seat would mark a milestone in Viet Nam-UN relations, and an opportunity to increase upon its work within the international community.
"Being a non-permanent member of the Security Council, Viet Nam will have the opportunity to prevent conflicts in accordance with the principles laid out in the UN Charter, and contributes to peace throughout the world," Deputy Minister Minh said.
He added that since deciding to run for the non-permanent seat in 1997, Viet Nam has been proving its ability to contribute to the UN as a non-permanent member of the Security Council.
"We always assure friends of Viet Nam 's strong commitment to maintaining peace and international security through our contributions to Southeast Asia as well as through UN activities," the Deputy FM said.
Minh stressed that Viet Nam’s efforts for peace and independence and its consistent foreign policy as well as achievements in the comprehensive renewal over the past 20 years have helped the country gain a bevy of support for the bid.
Since 2002, ASEAN countries have unanimously got behined Viet Nam’s candidacy for the seat. In October, 2006, the Asian group at the UN unanimously decided to nominate Viet Nam as the sole candidate from the continent. Viet Nam has also received the support of many countries in other continents.
