Hey Bay! It Big Ike & Son'ya the Founders of Ja-Chi-Philly! We've been together for about 3 years now & are growing strong. I guess you're wondering where the band's name came from...... Well, my husband and I came up with the name along with our musician friends and we started the group because it has a lot to do with where we all are from. Isaac & I plus all of my background singers (Erica Jordan, Cornelia Harris, Kathleen Sims aka (Babygirl), Antoine Hamilton aka (Boss), Leigha Harris and Chantel Burkett) are all born & raised in Joliet, IL. But, if you're not from Joliet you will probably call our small town Jaliet which is where the "Ja" comes from. Now, DeJuan Gibson aka (Marty) our percussionist (the Band member who holds us all together) is from Chicago as well as Riko our Drummer (who is now on a leave of absence (personal) "Pray for him"). We've also been blessed to have help from our friends in the "Chi" like the most humble bass player we know Mr. Sharay Reed. He is definitely heaven sent!!!!! Romel Ville(Sean Kingstons Stand-Up Bass Player) our dedicated Bass/Lead/ what ever we need him to play musician. Gerald Brooks (right hand man 2 Kenny Lewis of One Voice) not only did he play at our wedding....... when we need a track he's just a call away! Rex, (Mary J. Blige's Drummer) what can I say he's come a long way from "Hey I Got A Track 4 YOU".......He plays all over the world and it still remains the same Quote "I still got U" and his word is bond!!!! By now you should have figured out where the "Chi" comes from.Now the "Philly" speaks for itself.......We love the music from Philadelphia. Our music is influenced by Jazz, Neo Soul, & believe it or not a little bit of quartet........Funny Huh!!!!! but we love soul any kind of soul!!!! Some of our fav's are India. Arie, Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild, Tye Tribbett,Bilal, Kim Burell, Common, The Roots, Jazmine Sullivan, Amel Larrieux, and of course Mint Condition.
Now what can I say about Isaac Sampson (my Husband) "HE"S A MONSTER" the mastermind of it ALL!!!!!! The things that he do with music are undescribable. He's a decades before his own time!!!!! He's worked with cats(producer) like Mike Weatherspoon, Brian Lofton, Arrieun Tucker, Jay Harrison, Jason Tyson, Gerald Brooks, and he also helped to create the sound of Macio Harris' 1 song "Every Knee Shall Bow" for Ricky Dillard & New G.Mz. Son'ya has shared the stage with the likes of Karen Clark-Sheard, Dietrick Hadden, Ricky Dillard & New G, New Direction, Kevin Vessar, Kenny Lewis & One Voice, Malcolm Williams & Great Faith, Adrian B. King, Mark Hubbard, Travis Edwards & Product Of Praise, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Kim Stratton, and Mary Mary. I started at the age of 8 years old singing in my uncle's choir "Macio Harris & The Voices of Praise", It's where I came out of my shell. My uncle Macio is the one who molded me into the great soprano I am today by making me scream until my head exploded into an alto voice....(lol)!!!! I've had the opportunity to record the lead for Kenny Lewis & One Voices "He's The Bridge" on there first project. This is where I got my "Stage" (Chicago Talk) from. Mr. Lewis also gave me a chance to show off my writing ability by publishing my first song under "Hey Bay It's Son'ya Productions", with "Soldier". We are Truly Blessed and we are not done yet!!!!! Please keep your eye out for "Ja-Chi-Philly". This MySpace stuff is new to us so gave us a little time & we'll have our muzic available for you guys to check out.
