Current Top Ten
Updated in May
Since people seem to like these things and I also don't like to browse through a complete page for 'relative info', here's my current top 10 on top of the page.
Note that I hate making things like this, so my number ten could easily be number three and my top 11-20 could fit in my top ten and 1 day later everything is different all together. See it as a snapshot of what I like at this time.
Anyway here it goes in random order:
01. Equinox - Barcelona (Syncopathic)
02. Seba - Arsenic (Innerground)
03. Druid & The Watcher - Override (Dub)
04. Mendelayev - Smoking World (Break-Fast Audio)
05. Dissident - Universe Eat Universe (Subtle Audio)
06. Vicious Circle - Havana (Digital Soundboy)
07. Phuture-T - Quantum (Break-Fast Audio)
08. Antistar - The Shining (Dub)
09. Break - All Around (Symmetry)
10. Total Science - S.O.S (Violence)
Cerberus (Wouter Schrijvershof) started his electronic music journey in 1994 when the dutch hardcore scene was becoming commercial. He soon got bored with the standard hardcore sound and came acros the (infamous) Ruffneck black album and Ravers Night part VII. He discovered that not he not only loved the uptempo juno sounds with the famous 909 kick but also that there was something else in the background which he loved. It was not until 2004 that he truly discovered what that hidden sound was, it was the amen break.
After going to one of the Structure parties in Tivoli Oudegracht The Netherlands in 2003 he was hooked on the dnb sounds, but not only the sounds, the vibe of the crowd also made a big impact. In a country where the general motto when going out is ‘look at me and my 200 dollar euro shirt’ he was relieved that he found something more important. It didn’t (and still doesn’t) matter what you look like, what you wear, what colour your skin is, if you come to party then its ok. The combination of these two factors made such an impact that he soon started to search the internet for some tunes. It wasn’t long before he found the dutch website www.dnbforum.nl to enhance his vision on this new found music.
In the late summer of 2005 he found his chance to buy his own dj equipment (a wish finally come true after looking countless times inside the Thunderdome cd booklets with pictures of the dj’s performing). Being helpt by a friend who has being spinning for almost ten years then, his first records were techno records. But it wasn’t for long before drum & bass started to interest him more. The wicked drum rhythms, the deep basslines and the awesome breakdowns made him buy more and more tunes that never stopped to amaze him. At first it was the harder tunes that blew his mind, but after visiting a Ichione party in Amsterdam he got much respect for the deeper sounds of Bassbin. That night has haunted him eversince, being bored with the neuro sounds quite easily he started to focus on buying more of the Bassbin oriented sound. In the meanwhile he discovered the gifted producers Calibre, Breakage and Amit, all fitting right into the deeper sounds that he now loves so much.
His first year as a dj was tough, seeing other around him progressing sooner the he did frustated him alot, but good times come for those who wait. In may 2007 he was invited by Dj Shapezzz to do a set for his show Motronicism on the webstation Jungletrain.net. Being a fan of the radiostation for some time he could not decline that offer. He returned to the station a couple of other time again with on the Motronisicm show and on the Atmospheric Aesthetics show by Dj Arnicus.
In the summer of 2007 the dutch dnb collective Utreg Massive gave notice that they were organizing a dj contest. After listening to 20 + mixes they decided to include Cerberus as 1 of the 4 dj to perform a 30 min showcase in Oktober 2007. This led to other live performances and more radio shows, most of them b2b with his new found partner in crime dj The Watcher.
In december 2007 he was invited to fill in an application form for a own weekly show on Jungletrain.net. The JT crew granted him a own show based on a demoset, his time spend in the chatroom and that he had done previous shows as a guest. A great way to end the year 2007 and welcome 2008.
After a few months he decided to reflect on the Sub Woofing show and found himself not able to provide the quality he wants to provide so a change of pace was needed. He found this pace in his friend and fellow dj The Watcher and decided to invite him to co-host the Sub Woofing show. The Watcher accepted without a doubt and so the show has a new host that fills the even weeks and the old host for the odd weeks. A nice blend of different tunes and styles is the outcoming result which benefits everyone involved.
