About Me

An incarnation of creativity that is as equally thought-provoking as it is energizing - a meticulously coordinated integration of the domains of the mind and spirit. A shot of adrenaline injected directly into the brain – soliciting a response that is both primal and intellectual. Austin-based Ethereal Architect has shattered preconceptions about the progressive metal genre and commanded the respect of those who have heard their message. Their new album, Dissension, revitalizes the idea that real art was never meant to be sedative.
The quartet is the brainchild of guitarist David Glass. Armed with an almost fanatical obsession with music and a bachelor’s degree in the same, he conceptualized a band that would be characterized by complex textures laying the foundation for driving melodies. "My original intention was to create melodic metal," he recalls. "I was listening to bands like Iced Earth, In Flames, and Blind Guardian. Their addictive sense of melody became ingrained in my writing, but as I learned more theory and composition techniques, the music took on a life of its own." Bassist Darby Wen, a longtime friend and former band mate, introduced David to more progressive bands like Dream Theater and Symphony X. The two of them created the first embodiment of Ethereal Architect in the fall of 2005.
Vocalist Adam Contreras joined the band shortly thereafter. In a scene dominated by death metal growls and falsetto screams, Adam brings a refreshingly unique voice to the table. "When I began singing, I wanted to sound like Maynard Keenan from Tool, but as time went on I began trying to mimic anyone and everyone I took interest in. In time, my voice developed and my writing began taking more shape. Lyrically, our songs have covered topics from slavery to abortion and everything between, whatever the hell that is; there simply are no rules." The roster was completed in the fall of 2006 with the addition of drummer Jake Koenig. A veteran of the Texas music scene, Jake has been performing with musicians of all styles for the past decade.
Since the inception of the current lineup, Ethereal Architect has demanded the attention of music lovers all over Texas with their stunning live show. Drawing in new fans wherever they go, the band has created a loyal following who shares in the belief that music is alive - it is a dynamic force that can’t be ignored. This spirit is epitomized in the band’s recently released debut album, Dissension. Dark, atmospheric keyboards form the framework for a furious rhythm section, soaring guitar leads, and a voice fraught with urgency. This dissension is the first step down a path that will divide the inspired from the indifferent.
