Lemmy

I love Rock N' Roll

About Me

My name is Ian Kilimister or what people know me by is Lemmy from the best Rock n' Roll Metal NWOBM band ever called (for those who don't know) Motörhead. There's not much to tell about my early years, just that I was the son of a vicar. With the British Invasion of the early '60s, I became interested in music, playing in such long-forgotten bluesy rock outfits as the Rainmakers, the Rockin' Vickers, and Opal Butterfly. After I was serving as Jimi Hendrix's guitar roadie on an early U.K. tour by the legendary American guitarist, I joined the psychedelic space rock band Hawkwind in 1971, playing bass and occasionally singing. But come early 1975, I (now known as simply "Lemmy"), was handed his walking papers from Hawkwind after I was being busted at the Canadian border for drug possession. After I was fired from Hawkwind, I decided to form a band called Bastard. When my manager informs me that a band by that name will never get a slot on "Top of the Pops," I changed it to Motörhead. The lineup consists of me on bass and vocals, Larry Wallace on guitar and Lucas Fox on drums. The band hits the studio by the end of the year, and during the recording sessions, Lucas is replaced by Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor. Motörhead's then-label doesn't like the recordings (the company releases them, however, as On Parole three years later when the group starts achieving success). We decide a second guitar player is in order, so we ask "Fast" Eddie Clarke to try out. For reasons still unknown, Larry Wallace quits during the audition. Fast Eddie stays however, thus completing the trio that sees Motörhead through its ground-breaking early years. The band gigs, records, and finds a new manager (or two). me from Motörhead. Motörhead (Chiswick) is the band's first album to see the light of day. The guys' fan base builds and we start earning a reputation for being very loud, raw, dirty and all those good things heavy rock 'n' roll should be. So any ways I'm the best Bassist out there and I love women and drinking Jack Daniels. Cheers to all of my Motörhead fans out there in the world.
