Twan aka Twanie Ranks- Artist, and CEO Effiliated Records:Call it buoyancy or call it luck, but Antoine Cassidy calls it fate that took him from the streets of Bedstuy Brooklyn, NY to becoming an entrepreneuer and working with fellow Hip-Hop and Reggae legends. From the age of eleven, Twan aka Twanie Ranks started experimenting with music and developed his signature sound by blending Hip Hop and Reggae together. His first break was by way of a vision through a dream where Twan brought his talent to the legendary Boot Camp Clik. To his surprise, it wasn’t long after that he saw his cousin Louieville Sluggah in a video with BCC.
Through his affiliations with his cousin, he was introduced to the BCC and made his first appearance on Smif-n-Wessun’s (now known as the Cocoa Brovaz) single, and was requested to appear in OGC’s “Empire Strike Back†album. He later did a track entitled “Rugged Terraine†on the BCC compilation album “For The People†with Top Dog featuring Smif-n-Wessun. From there, the sky was the limit, as fate had Twan appearing on tracks with Heltah Skeltah and with Funkmaster Flex on his Vol.2 Mixtape.
Fast forward to now- in the Fall of 2009, Twan will be releasing a Pre Album entitled “The Trademark†which will be followed by the release of his solo album “Can’t Believe lifeâ€. Also look out for collaboration with Sadat X on his soon to be released “Wild cowboys Part 2.â€
In addition, to his career as an artist, Twan is also co-founder of the Music Educational Program, a non-profit organization that teaches the business of the Hip-Hop industry to urban youth. Together with fellow Hip-Hop artist Sadat X and Andre Lucy of L & L music group, it is their mission to give back to the youth by helping them to realize and make their own dreams come to fruition.
