VolaVola/Fly Me – the Movie - a new feature machinima from Berardo Carboni
"VolaVola/Fly Me" is a new feature machinima by the Italian director Berardo Carboni (Shooting Silvio - now distributed by 20th Century Fox ).
The project is currently in production in the virtual world of Second Life.
There are two films to VolaVola and it will be shot twice - First as a full feature length machinima and then, in 2009, the film will go into a second live action production in Rome, Italy. Each film will be shot from the same screenplay. Elements of the machinima version will be incorporated into the Feature Film version.
The director says VolaVola is "a film about human beings", about emotions becoming inevitably dull, even as we resist surrendering to the temptation of habit. At its core the film is about the human desire to keep love alive and preserved from natural decay. The plot specifically aims to disorient the viewer and as the story unravels it becomes increasingly difficult to understand what is actually real and what is not.
VolaVola also deals in a sociological and sometimes even surreal way with themes such as hacker ethics and the values shared in a virtual society. These topics are far too often left out by science-fiction in general. The main message of the film is to defend those shared values, as they play an important part in our cultural heritage, past, present and future, and are helping us to build a better place to live for everyone.
Carboni has put together an incredible team of people to work with him in the SL Metaverse - including Machinimatographer Evo Szuyuan, Assistant Director Fau Ferdinand, Builder Stella Costello, Costume, Hair and Makeup Design by Honey Fairweather, Production Assistance by Liz Solo. Expect cameos and special appearances from many Second Life and real life personalities including Bibbe Hansen, Aimee Webber, Fau Ferdinand and many more.

Vola Vola†sarà un film sugli esseri umani, sull’inevitabile opacizzarsi delle emozioni e sul bisogno di non arrendersi all’abitudine, il bisogno di continuare a cercare, sul naturale declino dell’amore e sulla necessità di proteggerlo, di tenerlo vivo.
Volavola sarà anche un film su second life e sui mondi virtuali in particolare racconterà come sia sempre più complesso stabilire che cosa è reale; nel due film recitano contemporaneamente veri avatar che interpretano loro stessi, personaggi tati da noi e persone reali che interpretano loro stesse. Il film virtuale sarà interpretato solo da avatar mentre il film rl solo da attori in carne ed ossa.
Infine Volavola affronterà in tono sociologico anche se vagamente surreale (lowbrow) e non come sempre accade di fantascienza i temi dell’etica hacker e in generale dei valori della società digitale sostenendo che sono un importante patrimonio dell’umanità tra le poche cose da difendere per cercare di rendere il mondo un posto migliore dove abitare.
Entrambi i film sono ambientati nel mondo reale, a Roma, dove come ormai ovunque, spesso accade di imbattersi in luoghi e persone che vengono da un altro universo.
Vorremmo cercare di realizzare il second film nella prima metà del 2008 e il film reale entro un anno dal second film. Nel second film stiamo coinvolgendo alcuni degli avatar più noti del metaverso mentre per il film reale disporremo di attori molto conosciuti in Italia, alcuni dei quali verranno trasformati in avatar e “reciteranno†anche nel second film.
Lo script è stato scritto da da Berardo Carboni, regista del film Shooting silvio e Mario Gerosa, autore dei libri Mondi virtuali e Second life, attualmente alla terza ristampa, capo redattore della rivista AD –architectural digest italia- e docente a contratto di progettazione culturale del territorio e comunicazione al politecnico di Milano.
