Orville Hamilton was an Elder and charter member of Caney Creek Freewill Baptist Church just outside of Pikeville, KY. He prayed for years for a singing group in the family and God rewarded his diligence. Counted in his seven children were three girls, three years apart.
Brenda, the eldest of the three, had a strong lead voice and learned to play guitar and piano. Yvonne, the middle of the three, had a powerful alto voice and covered bass guitar. Enagile, the baby of the family, had an unbelievably powerful soprano. The three formed a southern gospel group and sang, travelling far and wide, for years. At one point, Jeff and Sherry Easter tried to encourage them to pursue a full time professional southern gospel career.
However, God was leading them in different directions. Not from one another, mind you, rather from what most people would have considered the obvious choice. They chose the nobel profession of motherhood.
Their 'careers' were reduced to the occasional Sunday service at their home church and funerals of fans they had accumulated over the years. Enagile's eldest of her two sons, Matthew, and Yvonne's son and daughter, David and Deanna, learned I Can Only Imagine by Mercy Me just to sing in church. However, God's ways are not our ways and God...well, He wanted more.
So, we asked a few of our best friends who happen to be musicians as well to join us and we've been singing contemporary Christian music and spreading the gospel of Christ wherever God leads ever since.
Look around you at the people you know in your life. You know people who's parents left them with a legacy of alcoholism. Others with a legacy of abuse. My papaw, Orville Hamilton, chose to leave his children and theirs with a legacy of praise and prayer. We are just a continuation of the prayer project he started all those years ago. We'll all leave a legacy.
What will your's be?
In Christ,
Dave.
