Johnny Whelchel has lived in the Rogue Valley since 1996. Prior to moving to the Rogue Valley the singer/songwriter had lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Los Angeles, California playing in a wide range of clubs and small venues. Teaming up with Texas singer/songwriter Davy Dalton the two signed a deal with Comstock Records in Arizona. In the mid 90’s this tandem known as "Holiday and Dalton" had two singles break into the top ten in Europe, with the single "Music Man" reaching 1. On the eve of the duo’s first European tour tragedy struck. Johnny was diagnosed with cancer. After a two year battle Johnny scored his biggest hit to date. The cancer had gone into remission. Unfortunately the time away from supporting their music success had derailed the momentum created from the European singles. While still remaining friends the group disbanded and went on with their own projects. Johnny continued to write and play his music, teaming up with David Kettlewell aka. "The Freak" for his incredible guitar playing. The two collaborated to produce 9 of the 11 songs on "The Long Road Home" titles that include "Mountain Magic", "Rowdy Creek Bridge", and "South of the Border" to name a few. In 2005 Johnny was appraoched by songwriter Jeff Ewen to collaborate and record a single "How Will I Know". Johnny agreed and teamed up with "The Freak" the trio produced several more songs including "Last Goodbye" and "The Other Guy". The soon to be released album "The Long Road Home" is a journey covering love both lost and found, Those summer days of irrelevance and of life lived for better or worse.
