I was born with Hirschsprung's disease. Not too many people know this about me. But, every time I go to the beach or am shirtless, people ask about how I got a huge scar across my stomach. The funny thing is the first thing people think is that I had appendicitis. I share my disease because we are all born imperfect. They say 1 out of every 5,000 babies are born with Hirschsprung's disease. Donald Miller, author of "Blue Like Jazz" has helped me see that when we place war metaphors on cancer or diseases, those patients feel more burdened than they should. He continues, "Science has shown that the way people think about cancer affects their ability to deal with the disease, thus affecting their overall health." For me, I've had to live with my scar as a reminder that I survived. I'm choosing to close with this, that cancer, diseases, struggle, bankruptcy, and other unpleasant life stuff is only uncomfortable if we tell ourselves that. And instead of debating this with me or yourself, allow God to comfort you.
The name Murdock MacKenzie was created the morning after an overwhelming car crash in Hollywood, CA. Details are unnecessary. Yet, what was solely created to be a diversion of the wreck became a realization and drive to leave others with the assurance painted by the hands of creation. I won't leave until He says so. To clarify, I can't leave until it is my time. Whenever that time comes does not matter to me. I hope to be an honest songwriter for you in a time where music is overflowing with unrealistic truths. I hope others follow suit as I have followed suit to preserve the wildlife of a songwriter before it is too late.
