Biography
With each new year, comes a new beginning, and with that new beginning Kyle Whittaker is taking initiative after almost a full year away from his own music. This new initiative includes the completion of his debut album and a summer tour.
"I got caught up in a lot of other things over the past year. Completing my apprenticeship at Loft studio in Buffalo, moving to Toronto, and producing a number of other projects really distracted me from my own work. I'm hoping to make the most of 2009 by doing as much as possible." Whittaker
The last year has, in no way, been a waste of time. Whittaker has developed his craft as a producer and live sound engineer, which will translate well towards the production of the album. Also expected, is a diversity in musical styles, instruments, and lyrical content.
"I don't want every song to sound similar. I'm looking for a mixture of genres from folk to metal. I'm not a fan of every song having the exact same instruments or feel. I guess it [the album] will have more of a compilation feel to it. My personal greatest hits, hahaha!" Whittaker
Whittaker is currently booking shows across southern Ontario including Toronto, St. Catharines, and Niagara Falls. The goal is to organize a summer tour to promote the album release, tentatively set for June 2009. Between now and then, Whittaker hopes to play numerous dates in anticipation of the record.
"I'm really looking forward to playing shows again. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed gigging. With any luck, I can grab myself a ton of shows between now and June." Whittaker
The upcoming year is filled with opportunity, and Whittaker has no doubt that he'll receive his share.

Asmodeus (Obey And Breathe)
Mark Benjamin
"Asmodeous is without question the most compelling song both in form and delivery I have heard in my tenure (including over a hundred reviews) in the Sonicbids "artist feedback" review forum. This strong statement does not even take into account the fact that Kyle wrote, performed, and produced it himself, with the only assistance being a female vocalist for the high harmonies.
Of note is the slow steady dynamic curve - it just grows and grows,…and grows, from a lonely folk finger pick intro to a full band/orchestral coda using intuitive, well timed, and clever developmental tools.
Choice vocal harmonies, (such as the octave double) wrapped around a mystical, thought inducing lyric delivered with a passionate lead vocal are the constant. Changing and building around it: The unique classical/folk guitar style slowly evolving into a powerful rhythmic strumming which holds the groove until the percussion enters, at about halfway. Yet there is no layoff point for the listener, because the intensity curve delivers a steady payoff in a memorable, yet unique refrain with a resolution that begs for continuation….. all the way to the key change in the coda at just the point where the song needs something more as there is virtually no dynamic headroom left. This is the kind of songwriting one expects of an experience and talented writer/producer, not one who has just turned 21 years of age."
