I am here for Friends

About Me

I was born April 24, 1851 in Marian County, IA.
In 1864 our family moved to San Bernardino, CA.
I later moved to Dodge City, KS. where in 1875
I married Luisa Houston.
In January 1880 we moved to Tombstone A.T. to
join my brothers James, Virgil and Wyatt. Among
other things, I worked for awhile for Wells Fargo.
In October 1880, my brother Virgil became the
city marshal of Tombstone. Later Wyatt and I
joined him as deputies.
On October 26, 1881, at about 2:00 in the afternoon
my brothers Virgil and Wyatt, accompanied by "Doc" Holiday
and myself, went to a vacant lot near the OK Corral
to disarm a group of men who were unlawfully carrying
guns in the city limits. As everyone knows, a fight
broke out after Virgil called on them to "Throw up
their hands". I was shot in both shoulders during
the gunfight.
On March 18, 1882, someone shot me in the back while
I was playing pool at Campbell and Hatch's Saloon.
I did not survive.
My brothers Virgil and James returned my body to my
parents home in Colton, CA. for burial at the
Hermosa Memorial Gardens
