I started playing the cello when I was ten, in the string orchestra program in public middle school. I joined the Sherman (Texas) Symphony when I was still in high school. Also in high school I got to study for 2 1/2 years with "The Poet of the Cello," Adolfo Odnoposoff, at the University of North Texas in Denton.Earlier in Maestro Odnoposoff's career Pablo Casals had recruited him away from the Principal cellist position in the Mexico City Symphony to work as Casals' assistant at the Puerto Rico Conservatory, where Odnoposoff remained until Casals' death in 1973. He offered me a scholarship and a coveted spot in the music program at North Texas, which I declined (and I still have conflicting emotions about that to this day!) to study on scholarship at Trinity University in San Antonio. I got a BA in Music at Trinity and was principal cellist of the Trinity Symphony Orchestra my senior year. Then I quit music altogether for 18 years. I took it back up in 2007, and I don't plan on putting it down again. These days I perform most often in my two favorite bands in the world, The Tiny Tin Hearts and with Robin Smith.Austin is a real Shangri-La for musicians, and it's a place I know I'll awlays come back to anytime I leave! I'm a very fortunate person to get to play again at all after such a lengthy break, and I get to play some of the bast places with some of the best musicians anywhere several times a month- and the best part is WE'RE JUST GETTING STARTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
