This biography is about a singer her name is Paula Vaden. She’s from the desert in Las Vegas, Nevada. Paula has never been without a gig of some sort whether it was singing for a Shirley Tempel at The Starlite Lounge at age 6 or playing the GRRRLZ ROCK concert series in 2006. Paula’s vocals are from the heart, rich with nuance, rhythm, clarity and rock and roll rough. Percussion, congas, cow bell, kitchen sink. It’s a syncopated potion that works every time and on top of that she plays rhythm guitar. Cheryl Camelio - Vocals
Cheryl began singing at age 8 successfully emulating Connie Francis with her father’s encouragement in the basement of her parent’s home in Rochester, New York . From that day forward Cheryl knew singing was a gift, and has shared her passion for singing and entertaining for the last two decades. Cheryl provides a sultry, soulful alto range which delivers rich harmonies and tasty leads and adds depth and passion to the music of Soulicious. Cheryl has also fronted a number of bands in Oregon, including Transister, Art Grooveaux, Grateful Diva and conducted a successful summer festival tour for many seasons. She has also worked with Judy K. Vogelsang and Friends, Everybody and Their Uncle as well as Cowfolks, a country spin-off which achieved a third place recognition in the Country Showdown competition. Influences include Chaka Kahn, Joss Stone, Jill Scott, Erica Badu and of course the queen of soul Aretha Franklin.
Gerry Rempel - Lead Guitar/Songwriter
Gerry toured the US with the Los Angeles-based band, “Steppin’ Stones†and has performed with numerous regional and local groups “, including fronting his own group “The Rempel Jazz Syndicateâ€. Gerry has played with the University of Oregon Gospel Ensembles in addition to performing and recording with Lindsey Reightley whose recently released CD is receiving radio airplay in markets around the US. Gerry has also played in numerous Eugene Oregon Hult Center and other concert venues in productions such as “African Sanctusâ€, “Godspellâ€, and “J.C. Superstarâ€. Gerry has done extensive studio session work with Jazz, Rock and Blues bands, including an array of television and radio commercials and performed on TNN national television in Nashville Tennessee. Of recent note, SongDoor judges went out of their way to send a message to Gerry “awesome guitar player ya got there.â€
Sharon Greve-Drums
Heads up people here is a drummer that can’t be beat. Sharon Greve, started her drumming career at the age of 9 her first drum set didn’t last but 2 hours on Christmas day because the drum heads were made of paper need I say more. Throughout her academic life in public school and the University of Oregon. Sharon was classically trained in the ways of snare drum, timpani, marimba and trap set her passion is playing the trap set. Sharon’s career as a drummer has been rock steady and funky she is an asset to any rhythm section. She has worked as a studio musician and as a band member in such groups as Kalamity jam, 4 eyes, Paula vaden and friends and is currently laying down the groove in the soul group, Soulicious.
Jon Boone - Bass
A transplant to the northwest from Nevada, Jon has played with the likes of the turbulent and notorious funk groups Armed and Dangerous, The Knobs, The Major Johnson's, Higher Ground and also Will Rose's Right-On Roadshow, a multi-genre mix of rhythm based music that included New Orleans style funk, latin-rock, zydeco-cajun, reggae , afro-pop music and Will's own infectious gringo reggae..
More local collaborations have been with Aphasia, a Portland based jazz-fusion band and Eugene/Springfield based The Forrest T. Black Band.
Jon says that growing up on the edge of the ghetto in southern California's "Inland Empire" and family roots in the south are the cause of his enduring passion to play "the funk".
Barbara Dzuro- Paino
Barbara has been performing professionally in the Eugene area for more than twenty years. Although her early training and study was in classical music, she has been self-taught in jazz improvisation since 1971. She played in New York at the River Cafe, The Gage & Tollner, and at Greene Street in SoHo. In May 1980 she auditioned and was hired at the Harbor View Restaurant and Hotel in St. Thomas, the U.S. Virgin Islands, where she spent thirteen months playing six nights a week in the hotel dining area. In 1985 she worked as a lounge pianist at the Eugene Hilton and remained employed there until 1994. From 1986 to 1988 she was co-leader/composer for the jazz quartet Meridian, and recorded an album of original music which lead the group to perform at The Hobbit in Portland, the 1987 “du Maurier†Jazz Festival in Vancouver, B.C., the Gig Harbor Jazz Festival in Washington as well as the Eugene Celebration and local clubs in Eugene, Oregon.{}
