About Me

Since 2004, Dave Acosta aka DJ Dave is for the Children, has become one of El Paso's most loved and in demand DJ's. A veteran of El Paso's vital underground music scene of the late '90s/early '00s, he turned his attention to DJ'ing in '04, bringing his unique musical palate to El Paso's then stale club scene, which had been dominated by boring 130 BPM House music DJ's, cheesy "Retro" nights, and a musically indifferent audience.
As a co-founder of the highly successful Tuesday-night soul and funk weekly, Soulmatic, Dave is for the Children began his DJ career before he could even properly mix records. However, with the night's success he became known, not only for his music selection, but his party promoting and marketing abilities.
He quickly earned residencies at other clubs such as The Zone, Panache, K Bar and a popular bi-weekly residency on Fridays at 02 Lounge, where he became one of the first DJ's to bring current and underground Hip Hop to a more upscale audience.
In 2007, he decided to give up the budding DJ career he found and relocated to San Francisco, California. For a year and a half he soaked up all of the eclectic music and art that the Bay Area had to offer, before deciding to return to his hometown with a recharged battery and a new slant on the mixing, blending, clashing and recontextualizing of musical genres.
You are now as likely to hear current Top 40 Hip Hop and R&B hits as you are an uptempo House or Electro banger in a DJ Dave is for the Children set, all mixed and mashed together to perfection, with a little Indie or 80's Cock Rock thrown in for good measure.
DJ Dave is for the Children invites you to come check him out throughout the week at one of his four residencies.
Residencies:
Black Market (110 Robinson behind Mesa St Bar & Grill): Tuesdays and Fridays
O2 Lounge (Corner of N. Mesa & Cincinnati): Wednsdays and Saturdays
