The Onset is a force to be reckoned with. Although this group of musicians from northern New Jersey officially started in April of 2007, drummer Shane Santucci and vocalist/bassist Dave Rose began to construct the band’s foundation in the early months of 2005. Over this span of time the two experimented with a spectrum of styles, encountered and parted with many members, and finally emerged with something that clicked. Getting together with long time friends Josh Hurwitz (guitar/vocals) and Justin Byron (guitar/vocals), a chemistry these young musicians had never encountered occurred. Within two practices the band had created three songs and all could agree this was the start of something big. From this point The Onset continued to play and write new music, developing a sound unique as the individuals in the band. Experimenting with group vocals, tempo changes, the lost art of the guitar solo, and key changes, The Onset shows musical knowledge uncommon for their age.
After recently recording a three song demo, engineered by Mike Seahawk of Split Fifty, The Onset has started to receive recognition both within the local scene and online through myspace.com. Fans have been requesting the band to tour to places all over the country and even the UK! The group hopes to fulfill these requests soon and is not shy of performing; their live show displaying an energy that raptures the crowd. Having shared the stage with notable acts such as The Ataris, The High Court (I Surrender), Sound the Alarm (Geffen), The Matches (Epitaph), Grace Gale (Creep), ex Hidden In Plain View member Rob Freeman’s latest project, The Pilot (Drive-Thru), along with many others, The Onset is working hard to earn a name for themselves. With a friendship so close it can be called a family, dedication, talent, and the realization that music is supposed to be fun for the audience as well as the musicians, The Onset has what it takes to make it. As Shane, Dave, Josh and Justin anticipate going into the studio to record their EP, the future is looking bright.
