About Me

Ramsey Campbell was born in Liverpool in 1946. His first collection of short stories was published while he was still in his teens. At this time, his writing was firmly in the Lovecraftian vein, although he had found his own voice by the time his second collection, 'Demons by Daylight', appeared.Since then Ramsey Campbell has produced both supernatural novels and psychological thrillers, as well as producing an enviable body of shorter fiction. He also reviews films and books, has edited several volumes of horror stories, and he is also president of the British Fantasy Society. His latest novel is 'Thieving Fear', from PS Publishing, and the previous novel 'The Grin of the Dark' is now out in paperback from Virgin Books.Over the years his work has won many awards, among them:'The Chimney', World Fantasy Award, Best Short Story (1978)'Incarnate', British Fantasy Award, Best Novel (1985)'Ancient Images', Bram Stoker Award, Best Novel (1989)'The House on Nazareth Hill', International Horror Guild, Best Novel (1998)'Told by the Dead', British Fantasy Award, Best Collection (2003)He was given the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Horror Guild this year, although he probably still plans to do a thing or two...His website can be found at http://www.ramseycampbell.com(There is a cover gallery, incomplete as yet, in the pics section - well worth a look. Also, to avoid confusion, whilst Mr C makes use of the blog, etc, general tidying up and maintenance of this page is performed by a shadowy caretaker...) MyGen Profile Generator

Let The Right One In

Daunted by the fierce Ms Flynn, I return to my blog, to add my voice to the chorus of praise for Let The Right One In. If by any chance you don't know what this film is fundamentally about, I suggest ...

Liverpool, capital of claptrap

The year of the City of Culture is past, but Liverpool has committed itself to continue its cultural drive. I should like to think that the following report refers to some kind of performance art that...

slow and boring

I'm both dismayed and heartened to find Mervyn Peake's Titus Groan described on a discussion board as slow - dismayed because I think it's one of the most compulsively readable novels of my exper...

a prayer for Liverpool

Liverpool's year of culture is over. It brought many splendid things - Klimt and Simon Rattle (a shy youthful reader at the music library in Liverpool when I worked there) were two of the finest. The ...

happy new year

I'll wish myself one as well, having worked well after dark on the last day of the old one. I had fun with dialogue in The Seven Days of Cain and then managed to finish off my introduction to the coll...

the lure of the blog

Actually, I'm not so sure I got it right about writer's block as it relates to blogging. Maybe it's rather that I'm wary of spending too much time on here (but then that goes for the Internet in gener...

a bloody fool

I return once more. A horror from the past has revived me. Here it comes: 'Mr Harryhausen's letter places me in an unenviable position. As far as my article on King Kong is concerned, I am prepared to...
