About Me

I was born in Rwanda and moved to Canada after Genocide destroyed what I had always known as my home.Writing is simply my life. Writing has made me when I didn’t know who I was, writing had saved me when I thought I was going to die, writing has healed when I thought I was wounded for ever.My work includes short stories and poems. My favorite poems are “soliloquies” which I use as spoken word pieces. My style is a bridge between modern English and French literature and African traditional storytelling.I have been writing since I was a child. I come from a long tradition of poets, singers and praise singers. I started writing about freedom and humanity when I was introduced as a teenager to the wonderful epics and often tragic fate of African heroes and to the writings of great African scholars such as Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka, Aimé Césaire, and Sembène Ousmane. The biggest lesson I learnt from world history and the war and Genocide that ravaged my native country and forced me into exile is that words misused can be the most lethal weapon. I vowed to use my words to get readers to revisit and question history, ascertain their identity, and embrace those we often forget or overlook. In my parallel life as a “mortal”, I hold a PhD in Veterinary Science and a Master of Arts in Economics. I work as a freelance consultant specializing in Economic Development.
