Ackley Kid formed in the fall of 2004 when two audio engineers, Kevin Sweet and Danny Vins, befriended each other while working their way up the ranks at a Hollywood post-production studio. What began as a happy hour conversation on bands turned into "hey, can you put bass on this" and quickly evolved into a full-blown songwriting operation. Drawing from retrofitted influences such as Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, Band of Gypsies, The Beatles, and less known, more raw acts such as Built to Spill and Los Halos, the two quickly belted out Crash One, a 3 song ep. But it was when they added drummer Ken Merrell into the fold in January of 2005 that a new animal was released. Armed with 100-watt amps and mammoth drums, Ackley Kid morphed into a power rock trio with a loud/soft sense of dynamics that has rarely been attempted since the early 90s. The result is Crash Two, a 4 song ep, that harkens back to the roots of the late 60s rawk 'n roll movement where songwriting was meshed with raw power, dreamy soundscapes, and groove.
