Even the name, TheMichaelFinnieBand LLC. (TMFB) is a bit of wordplay. Called by some a one-man band himself, Michael Finnie (the entrepreneur) is the namesake of what the company slogan points out is actually “The Artist’s Networkâ€. Indeed the true strength of the company is that it is made up of not just one, but a number of artists - all talented in their individual right and style. As a collective, they allow almost infinite combinations to create just the right sound for your tour band, album recording, company or social event.
Known simply as "Finnie" by his fans, Michael Finnie (the artist) grew up in Chesapeake, Virginia. He absorbed influences as varied as the cultures that make up the melting pot of the Hampton Roads Area. Gospel, R&B, Classical and Opera, Hip-Hop, Rap and House music are just a few of the most prominent. During this time, Teddy Riley is king, but Pharell Williams is a hungry and talented student. Missy Elliott is hitting us with the “Heeâ€, while Bruce Hornsby is telling us “the way it isâ€. During this time, Finnie played instruments related but also varied – piano, drumset, bass and voice. And if you’ve ever heard Finnie sing, you’ll know that yes, voice is another instrument he plays well. Later he would pay homage to another band started in VA – The Dave Matthews Band, on tour of the US and Panama playing bass with their official cover band.
Now we’re in the present, and TheMichaelFinnieBand LLC. exhibits this variety of experience in his sound. Sometimes it’s electronic, other times it’s more analog. Sometimes it’s vocal – whether sung or spoken, and other times it’s purely instrumental. Yet, by whatever means it’s delivered, the music of TheMichaelFinnieBand has a refreshing sound and harmony. It’s new and innovative, yet comfortable like you’ve heard it a million times. Every artist in “the band†amplifies this refreshing feeling to actually bring “inspiration†to your event like a welcome breeze. Playing in a band by yourself can be fun, but it’s just not the same as playing in a band with other people. So Michael Finnie has amassed a roster of talented musicians who are on the same sheet of music. Which ones will you choose?
