Sounds Like: T-sonic is a German band with is build around the master guitarplayer Tom Schaffert and vocalist Dominik Steegmuller. On bass we have Claus Bubik ,Marcel millot Drums and on keyboards Tobi Reiss to complete the line-up. The sound they bring us is difficult to label. To me it is blues, but in the broadest meaning of the word, very original en modern is what they sound, a good catch phrase would be "loungy blues" to me. The very strong, soulfull voice of singer Dominik sounds a lot like Gino Vanelli (yes, thats a long time ago, these guys are probably so young they haven't even heard of him) Even the music sounds a bit that way sometimes, but in this case, the guitar is more important. Hints of Jamiroquai, Stevie Wonder, Wes Montgomery, with T- Sonic, it fits all into their blues. Tom Schaffert wrote all songs and it are quite strong compositions. No minutes long guitarsolo's,only the functional stuff the song needs. To return to Dominik, he is one of the best young European vocalists I have heard for long, and I hear a lot of new singers each week .He's really good! Let's have a closer look at the cd: "Lovers On Strange Ground", the opening track immediately points the direction: a pop influenced, soulful bluesrecording with a modern, hip sound. " Waiting for Nothing" has a Jamiroquai sound to it. The beautiful ballad "Your New Life" shows us what a strong songwriter Tom is, his songs slip into your ears easilybut gets out difficultly. Meanwhile, in this song we can enjoy the strong guitarwork of Tom and Dominik's smooth voice. Even stronger sounds "Colours of Lovina", because both gentlemen are at their very best in this wonderful lovesong, not a real "blues" in the sense of the word, but the bluesfeeling oozes out of every note, so to speak. And it goes on and on this way. "Love and affection": simply wonderful, and the transition into "Body and Soul", the following song, is really original. Summing up good songs is no longer needed, everything that follows is more than o.k, on one condition, if you're not a blues purist who only loves the 12 bar stuff, If you are: this is not for you On the other hand if you are into a real bluesy popsound , or a poppy bluessound whatever you call it, this is strongly recommended. The real hardcore bluesfan, who 's been waiting for some "traditional" blues, gets his share in the last number, the short instrumental by Tom "Sit and Wait"Suitable title, that's for sure.RON (www.rootstime.be)
