About Me

Dhyani has been practicing Yoga in her hometown of New York City for over 10 years. Currently she offers group classes and private instruction in various styles: Hatha, Vinyasa, and Power. Her teaching style may oscillate between those, as well as, Anusara Yoga by which she is strongly influenced. A class with Dhyani takes the shape of a wave: warming-up, energizing, challenging, finding the edge, cooling-down, relaxing, and meditating. She gives detailed instructions, guiding students to experience the power of their potential energy. She is also trained to offer Therapeutic Yoga: specialized yoga care for diseases and ailments such as arthritis, asthma, knee surgery, anxiety, carpal tunnel, diabetes, and obesity among others. Dhyani is registered with Yoga Alliance and her 200-hour certification comes from the Integral Yoga Institute's Yogaville Ashram in Virginia along the Hatha lineage of Swami Satchidananda. Dhyani has made 2 pilgrimages to her father's homeland of India where she plans a return to study Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of holistic health and healing which she draws upon in her classes to adapt to natural forces such as seasonsal changes as well as the individual needs of the students. She also practices Vipassana, a style of insight meditation requiring 10 days of silence and observation of the breath and bodily sensations. Dhyani has a very strong connection to sound - she holds a Bachelor of Science in Acoustics and Audio Engineering. Using a bright orange Waldorf analog/digital subtractive synthesizer, she writes yoga soundtracks to keep the pace of the practice flowing. Dhyani has studied yoga with Francisca Alexander, Leigh Evans, Wesley Collier, Elizabeth Neuse, and John Friend.
