About Me

April 12,1988, Rachel Calgie and Carlos Jackson gave birth to Carlos “Gates” Calgie in Cleveland, Ohio where he was born and raised. His parents separated when he was about 2 years old. Although his parents struggled with getting along with each other they both did their best to love their only child unconditionally. As a small child Gates' father wasn’t around as much as he could have been but later as he got a little older he turned it around and became a much better father figure and played a huge role in his son’s life despite the fact that they weren’t living in the same household. Gates has always been infatuated with music. He is now an extremely talented singer, songwriter, producer, and rapper. However growing up he wasn’t really interested in singing. He started rapping when he was around 13 and formed a two man group with his childhood friend Darin “Kennedy” Moton. They were instantly drawn towards hip-hop music and everything that had to do with it. Using a small $300 drum machine and a tape recorder provided by his father, Gates began to produce tracks and recorded multiple songs with Kennedy. They later on came up with a new concept and linked up with 3 good friends of Gates' who also went to high school with him. They form another rap group in 2005, H.N.R(Hustlers Never Rest) was their name. H.N.R originally consisted of Gates, Kennedy, J-Curse, D-Ro, and A-Dub. They recorded many songs and did numerous shows together, but do to certain complications within the group they split up in 2007. Although there was a little bitterness and at the beginning of the breakup, they all eventually settled their differences and became very close again. In early 2008, Gates put out his first solo mixtape entitled “The Billion Dollar Boy’s Club”. During the recording of that project he was beginning to experiment with singing on a number of songs. The lyrics and melodies were catchy but his singing still needed some work. Later on that year Gates began to seriously look into R&B music and decided to pursue it full-time. He became heavily inspired by the artists he would listen to the most. The artists who influenced Gates the most were Ne-Yo, The-Dream, and Trey Songz. He began to really study the art of R&B music. His close friend Deon, who had a natural gift for singing, saw the potential in Gates and really encouraged him to pursue a singing career. Determined to be the best, he practiced singing and writing on an everyday basis and eventually became very good at them both. He is currently working on a series of mixtapes and is doing alot of performing this year so look out for that....

Who Inspired Gates and why????

Throughout the years I have been inspired by many artists.  My love for hip-hop basically started the day I was born and grew stronger as I got older.  When I was a young boy I grew up in a house list...
