Take one singing drummer, that old drum machine you bought in 1982 and some songs about helicopters, ambulances and the devil.
Now imagine a Northern Irish Todd Rundgren fronting Hot Chip and you’re somewhere close to Sadpaw.
Sadpaw aka Phil Wilkinson is normally to be found playing drums for artists such as Psapp, Iain Archer, Duke Special, Minuteman and others.
“ I wanted to make an unashamed pop record that was also a bit wrong. Like someone giving you grapes at a disco.†He says of his debut album.
From the Beach boys pop of Love your helicopter to the 80s electro grooves of Love like an ambulance, Sadpaw tips its hat to influences as diverse as ELO, Daft Punk, Evan Dando, ZZ top and LCD Soundsystem.
For the live show expect some dapper threads, clarinets, bin lids, songs about fire and a band of Swedes and synth wielding Londoners.
Sadpaw will be opening for Athlete on their October UK tour.
