David, a Falmouth artist, originally from Yorkshire, began drawing and painting at an early age because of his interest and love of nature.
Since, he has enjoyed experimenting with techniques and mediums, in particular graphite, coloured pencils, watercolours and more recently acrylics; in which he has achieved a personal and unusual style. His colours are vibrant and his vignettes are embodied within the composition in a unique manner. The drawings are precise. He prefers the texture of heavy papers and explores the boundaries of the medium, paper, and water. His former training in colour technology gave him a practical knowledge of pigments and compounds.
His paintings ,inspired by his own thoughts and reflections on serious ecological, environmental and world issues are both deep and sometimes amusing. We are shown how things around us can be viewed in a different and often humorous manner. His work is a true representation of an original thought that gave birth to an idea. David is influenced by his own personal likes and dislikes. It is never his intention to offend but to make us more aware of our environment, our world. and the way in which we perceive and manage it. Does he wish to embellish the reality or suggest alternatives?

Basically, I draw and paint for myself only, with no commercial intent. My paintings reflect both what I think and what I enjoy painting. If my work however, pleases others, then it is a greatly appreciated bonus (I thank you). I don’t paint with the idea in mind that my work would end up being framed and hung in someone’s home; although some already are. I imagine my work as mini posters of my mind which hopefully portray their own message or have occasionally a written message superimposed. I paint in a rather tight manner which allows my work to be enlarged without losing its clarity or indeed the opposite as they can be reduced in size to make perhaps cd or dvd covers. Wherever they may be seen, I hope they will be appreciated.
