Sorry, but out of the probably 2,000 books I have I doubt if I can pick a favorite....
I really love the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series out by Laurell K. Hamilton, the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan, almost anything by Stephen King, the Recluse series by L.E. Modesitt, and about any well-written military, police procedural, forensic pathology, horror, fantasy, and some sci-fi books...
