The birth of the BACK DOOR PREACHERS:
Singer, guitar player, Mike Castellano has been a bass player for many years ( a position he still maintains as his main passion). However, increasingly growing curious to try out a handfull of songs he had written, Mike set out to round up some players who were willing to take a chance with him, even though he had never before sang or played guitar in a band. Just the fact that these players stuck around through the lean early beginnings of the band is still amazing to Mike, and one he is most greatfull for.
The music started comming together, and the sound Mike was looking for was realized. What started out as an experiment to enjoy just playing for the sake of playing, evolved into an unexpectedly pleasing sound.
They play heavy blues based rock in a style definitely their own, but in the spirit of artists like, Iggy Pop, N.Y. Dolls, and The Stones. Along with folk rock tunes that could easily come from the likes of Neil young, Bob Dylan, or John Prine. They even throw in some heavy blues and a country song or two.
Mikes long time friend and fellow bass player, Preston Peck, was luckily available. Mike approached Preston with the idea and the two stumbled through a few rehearsals together. To Mikes amazement Preston still answered his phone and did not head for the hills. With his solid bare bones style, and unique lines, Preston is a perfect fit for the band.
Next it was time to bring in a lead guitarist. Louis Ramos, also a long time friend, and someone who Mike had played with before in well known Orange Co. band HELLBOUND HAYRIDE was the perfect choice. Louis, a very accomplished guitarist adds a distinct color and feel to whatever he plays. Not only the abillity to play the hell out of his guitar, Ramos also, like only so few, has a sound all his own. Even the slightest notes and you know it's him. Louis is the icing on the cake.
After a few hits and misses with drummers, Mike contacted Prestons friend Kevin. Kevin adds a heavy bottom, along with a warmth that very few drummers possess these days. Also, due to his background, Kevin adds an element of punk to the band, giving it a nice edge.
Still in sort of a project stage it is uncertain where they go from here, but the Back Door Preachers are planning on doing some recording and a video real soon. if all goes good, some gigs as well.
So stay tuned and if you get a chance, come out and support them , you will definitey be treated to an experience unlike any other. PICTURES, MUSIC, AND OTHER FUN STUFF COMMING SOON.
