Rollover claims life of teen: Single-vehicle accident occurred south of WellsFriday, March 28, 2008 12:10 PM PDTELKO - A Laughlin teenager died Thursday night in a vehicle rollover accident on U.S. Highway 93 about 45 miles south of Wells.The teen was a rear passenger in a two-door 2005 Ford Focus and was ejected from the vehicle. The teenager, who was not identified pending notification of family, was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt, according to a Nevada Highway Patrol report.The driver of the vehicle, Bertha Maria Rankin, 72, of Portland, Ore., was northbound on the highway at about 9:45 when her vehicle traveled across the north and southbound lanes to the shoulder, according to the report.Rankin reportedly overcorrected, causing the vehicle to rotate and enter a broadside skid before it overturned, the report stated.In addition to the fatality, Rankin sustained moderate neck injuries and passenger Colton Zeigler sustained severe lower body injuries. Both were transported to Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital.
