About Me

This layout was handmade with love by the folks at My space or yours? Go get one!
We are the Shanghais. Our roots are all here in Birmingham. The band was created back in February/March 2007 originally so a group of guys could get together and jam, have some fun, etc. Originally there was dismay and thoughts of dismantling before we even played a gig until we found David Gellings, a wonderful bass player and arranger of segues who brought fresh and exciting new energy. We played our first show at the Crestwood Tavern on June 28, 2007 and have been gigging ever since. June will be our two year anniversary and we have done over sixty gigs since then, including a couple in Chattanooga. We have opened up for Dumpstah Phunk and rocked for Barrack. If your bored and looking for a party we our definetely your band. The music is a mixture of psychedelic rock, jazz fusion, straight up funk, rock, blues, techno trance rock, and an ever growing palette of original material. Every show has a different setlist, explosive segues, and searing pyschedelic bliss. The sky is the limit for this group, and we hope to go a long way, hopefully touring in the near future.Email Patrick Mullins for booking: [email protected] Band Members:Adam Flanagan: Keyboards and vocals. Adam has been playing keyboards for a relatively short time in the grand span of things (four years) and has been trained in various styles by local genius Mathew Devine. He has been in bands such as Looney Mill, The Aleph, Antrax, White Collar Techno, and the UAB Jazz Combo.David Gellings: Bass guitar. David is the youngest member of the group (25). He writes the bulk of the setlists as well as designing the band's artwork. He has been playing music for about ten years, bass for five and has played previously with White Collar Techno.Quinn Collins: Drums. Quinn is the newest addition to the band. He brings an excellent ear, a wonderful sense of timing and dynamics, and a hunger to create new music. We hope to keep him around for a long time. He played previously with regionally known Birmingham based jamband Looney Mill, and picks up various gigs all over town for other groups.Patrick Mullins: Guitars, vocals, and loops. Patrick has been playing guitar for eight years and has received training mainly from the following teachers: Mark Kimbrell, Joel Smith, and Tony Lombardo. He played previously for Raga (or Looney Mill), White Collar Techno, Antrax, UAB Jazz Combo, and currently plays bass for local R and B stars Hammer State.
