Open Mic Tuesdays is easily described as a weekly open mic night located in Culpeper, VA. It is actually located, more specifically, at the 128 West Culpeper Street building which houses the Culpeper Rock Academy. In August of 2007, an idea came, to the soon to be senior Brett Jenkins, that Culpeper
needed a
good open mic night. He asked himself what resources he could use to make this idea become reality and in turn was led to Culpeper Rock Academy’s very own, owner and founder, Keith Macdonald. In proposing his plan Brett asked to have one open mic night which might, if successful, turn into a repeat. Macdonald was for it! Jenkins then decided that the first show would be September 4, a Tuesday night, at 7pm lasting until 9pm, and costing only 2 dollars for entry while performers get in for free. He spent a month preparing and at the night of the show… as Borat said best, “Great Success!†Macdonald asked him to hold the event every week on Tuesdays and Jenkins with great enthusiasm accepted this task. In doing so, this acceptance, made way for the great legacy of The Culpeper Open Mic Tuesdays sponsored by The Rock Academy and hosted/directed by Brett Jenkins.Open Mic Tuesdays is intended to be an “unplugged†outlet for musicians, comedians, poets, etc. We house a full PA system which brings clarity to the music, laughter to the comedians, and insight to the poets. This is a family-oriented event so language and behavior must be kept clean and family-oriented. Any violation to this rule
is to be dealt with accordingly. Bands do have the right to play at this event but must keep in mind that this event is “unplugged.†Meaning we prefer acoustic over electric and some form of soft drums over full drum sets. So, if you want to play, make an acoustic version of your music with bongos… for example. Lol. Depending on the amount of people will depend on how long you play (most of the time you will have 10-15 minutes to shine though) and we do a random order for the order of performances. We like to get the crowd
involved for this is of course a fun time for
everyone. It is again only 2$ for entrance and free if you do happen to sign up and play. This is an all age’s event so anyone from 2 years of age to 90 years of age can stop by. If you wish to sign up you can come the day of, 15 minutes early preferably, and sign up, or you can sign up online through comments and/or messages. Remember my friends, my enemies, my co-workers, my brothers, and my sisters that, “It is all about the music.â€
