D3 Productions is a production company run by me, Denver Hollingsworth III, an avid 16 year old filmmaker. I love to create movies, and have been doing it for over eight years. My production team is my family, and my theater is our living room. One of my short films, The High School Haunting , won first place at a local film festival in May 2006. The success from that film lead me to do many other projects in the film business. Not long after, I filmed the EPK (behind-the-scenes) documentary for an independent film called "The 27 Club" ( www.the27clubmovie.com ). The film premiered in April 2008 at the Tribeca Film Festival, and "The Making of The 27 Club" premiered to many in August 2008 at a private screening for cast and crew. Following that project, I was offered many jobs dealing with film making. I completed an advertising video for Duplin County Transportation in January 2008, and there is a possibility it will appear on local television networks soon. I continue to create wedding videos and other projects such as advertising videos, although they are all by request. My passion lies in writing and directing my own short films, which can be viewed on this site. I aspire to become a professional director when I get older, and hopefully I am paving a way for that now. Although most of my films are classified as short films, some are over 45 minutes in length. I do not usually plan to make a short film or a feature film...I just film what I think I need for the story, and it comes out that way. I am not to the point of hiring professional actors (or professional crew, for that matter), so most of my films star family or friends. We usually do not set a budget, but most of the time we do not need to. My favorite genre to direct is horror. Due to acting constraints, horror is usually the easiest film to make, too. Most of my films are horror, or thrillers. Not very many stray too far away from those genres.
The best way to describe the way D3 Productions creates films is with an answer I had to a question when "The High School Haunting" was being shown in film festivals locally. The interviewer asked how many people we had on the crew of the film, and I answered, "The same amount of people we had in the cast [4]. Whenever someone died, that person just filmed."
He also asked what our budget was, and I answered, "About $10. We had to buy some drinks and ice cream from the store afterwards."
And that movie was pretty expensive!
