About Me

Since this account was suddenly vanished.. we've moved. We will be updating this but strongly advise you catch up with us at www dot drsketchybrisbane dot com. ..
Hello Art Monkeys,Dr Sketchy's Brisbane no longer runs. Since moving to Melbourne six months ago I'm no longer in the position to run it - and my search for a new Headmistress/master has come to naught. If you want the job, let me know, I would like nothing more than to be able to pass it on to someone who will re-energise what was a great Brisbane fixure!Message me on myspace and I will be happy to let you know all the details.Omega Formerly Headmistress Dr Sketchys' Anti Art School BrisbaneDr. Sketchy's is what happens when cabaret meets art school. Dr. Sketchy's is the little Brooklyn event that became a movement. Founded in 2005 by artist Molly Crabapple, Dr. Sketchy's asked a simple question. Why can't drawing naked people be sexy?
We comb Brisbane to find the most beautiful burlesque dancers, delicious fetish models, spunkiest Rollergirls, and the the most rippling hunks of man. Then we let you draw them for three hours. Interspersed with posing are ridiculous drawing contests (best left handed drawing? Best incorporation of a woodland animal?) where you can win alcohol and fancy prizes. From it's humble Brooklyn beginnings, Dr. Sketchy's now has more than 50 branches around the globe, including Hollywood, London, Tokyo, Rome, Melbourne and Sydney. Now, we add Brisbane to that ever-growing list.

"The point is that is isn't typical life drawing. Here, the drawing sessions are about opening your mind, pushing the envelope, encompassing the model's personality and uniqueness, funny contests, and having a fun time. It's also about joining various aspects of our city's culture to the benefit of everyone, in a social and promotional way.
FAQ:
How is Dr. Sketchy's different from a normal life drawing class?
Dr Sketchy’s is the medicine when feeling a bit uninspired. Art class should be a bit more fabulous and fun. At Dr. Sketchy's we've got bodacious burlesque queens as models. We've got ridiculous art contests, music and prizes. Along with a selection of posh beverages- alcoholic and non- available to buy, and fab food too.
What mediums can I use?
All dry mediums are okay, no oil paints, messy mediums and stinky mediums. Please don't cause a mess!
Are there easles? Tables? Sketchpads? No tables, no boards and no easels – there's some seats, and to save disappointment, book early - contact us at [email protected]. We try to bring sketchpads and pencils to sell for dropins, but no guarantees.
Hey, why isn't the model naked? I thought this was life drawing class!
Queensland nudity laws prohibit naked models and drinking in the same room. Besides, Dr. Sketchy models show more than enough flesh to get in all the latissimus dorsi and pectoralis major you might desire.
I'm not quite 18 yet. Can I still come?? Yes, you can - but you can't drink alcohol (obviously) and you are subject to the same rule of behaviour as everyone else. You need to be there to draw, and to treat our models and your fellow art monkeys with respect. If you have a mature attitude and want to participate, we don't care how many candles were on your last birthday cake.
Dr. Sketchy's sounds cool. I want to model!
Dr. Sketchy's looks for ravishing and/or fascinating people with good costumes. If you're a performer with a mailing list, even better. Send a picture and a brief bio to Omega at [email protected]
Contortionists, tattooed hunks, Siamese twins and burlesque dancers very encouraged to apply.
Dr. Sketchy's sounds cool. I own a small business and want to sponsor you. Tell me some details.
Well, you've come to the right place! We're always looking for sponsors for our art contests. Donations for prizes of art related goods (sketchpads, ink, etc) or whatever awesome product you have will get you a logo on our poster, prominent placement on our website, mention in our monthly newsletter. Email us and we'll talk.
Quick Sketchy Facts:
-Dr. Sketchy's was founded in December 2005 by Molly Crabapple, an illustrator and former artist's model. Bored with the sterile classes she had posed for, Molly started Dr. Sketchy's on the basis of fair pay for models and boozy, decadent fun for all.
-Molly got the idea during college, when she worked as an artists' model, and found the classes she posed for sterile and dull.
-There are 50 Dr. Sketchy's around the world, in 9 countries and 4 continents, including NYC, Hollywood, London, Rome, Tokyo and Melbourne.
-Dr. Sketchy's official companion volume, Dr. Sketchy's Official Rainy Day Colouring Book (by Molly Crabapple and John Leavitt), was published by Sepulculture Books in December 2006. It's one part history of Dr. Sketchy's, one part handbook, and one part sexy activity book on acid, and has been praised by HOW Design, Venus, Publisher's Weekly and the LA Times, amongst other places.
-In February and March 2007, Molly Crabapple toured America to bring Dr. Sketchy's to locales formerly lacking in Sketchiness.
-Dr. Sketchy's will be producing a 24-session run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2007. Dr. Sketchy's has been a part of the Miss Exotic World Burlesque Festival in June 2007, and will be launching its San Diego branch at the San Diego Comiccon.
-Dr. Sketchy's has received scads of national and international press, from places like The New Yorker, The LA Times, The Washington Post, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Village Voice, BBC Radio, NPR National Radio, Time Out New York, Time Out London, The Age (Melbourne), The Sydney Morning Herald, The National Post (Canada), Nikkei Trendy (Japan), The Boston Phoenix, and many more.
-Dr. Sketchy's is releasing a 2008 pinup calender, and has an internet radio show in the works. It also produces a series of retro-styled YouTube comedy shorts.
-In October 2007, Dr. Sketchy's will be presenting a gallery show in New York City of the best art produced at Dr. Sketchy's around the world.
