AVENUE or The Avenue Band formed at the start of 1976 in Mount Gambier South Australia when Phil & Mark E decided to form a new band after the demise of popular local band Roadway in which Mark E had been doing some guest spots .
The two inlisted the aid of Denis (recently moved from Melbourne) Wayne the youngest member of the band & for the first few months Eric Mudford on Organ ,when this didn't work out Eric was replaced by Mark Moffatt on guitar from popular Kingston band Axis & the lineup was complete.
The band played loads of shows over the next couple of years, School socials, Dances & Concerts around SE South Aus. & Western Vic. building a strong loyal following , In late 77 the band recorded the Avenue EP Come on In at Macadamia Studios in Mount Gambier produced by Ross Williams .
The EP was a great local success climbing to number 4 on the 5SE chart where it stayed over the new year ,the song chosen for airplay was Calling me back Home which realy spelt the end for the band as Mark Erickson the bands lead singer/frontman work visa expired (he had come to Aus. as an exchange teacher from America) and he had to return to the States,
So eary 78 we said goodby to Mark ,Denis ,Phil & Wayne continued on for a time as Mainstreet before embarking on other projects ,and Mark Moffatt went back to Axis and a number of other projects. The band members kept in contact over the years and in 2002 got back together for a couple of shows in Mount Gambier & Adelaide and it was great to see all our old friends & fans come out and support us.
