About Me

Kieran began playing piano at age 6 under tuition of Piano Teacher Norma Davies. His enjoyment of music led him to also begin playing Drums at age 9 with Dave Watkins. Kieran has since gained his Grade 8 level in both instruments and has been playing live music since the beginning of secondary school both in original bands and function bands. His understanding of theory and ability to read music also led to him playing for Brass Band and Orchestral competitions during his school years travelling to play and compete in Manchester, London, Italy, Wales and doing sessions in pit bands for Theatre Companies. While in school his interest in singing saw him taking lead roles as Billy Bigelow in Carousel, Javert in Les Miserables and Eisteddfod Choir Competitions. In 2006 Kieran was involved in "THE BIG GIG" project with his function band "Under The Covers" and it was there he met and began a growing working relationship with Soul Singer Claire Simone which has continued.During 2006-2007 Kieran studied for a year in London with great players such as Darryn Farrugia, Eric Stams, John Cook, Pete Cater and Mick Morena at London's Tech Music Schools. On returning to South Wales Kieran is continuing to play regularly for various theatre, music and original projects whether it be drums, keyboards/piano or vocals he likes to keep busy with his music.

My Interests

Music:

Influences: I'm sort of influenced by musical projects rather than specific people. I'll list a few not in any real order. For music at a very high and complex level I'd have to say people like Dave Weckl, Phil Maturano, Thomas Leeb, Vinnie Colaiuta etc. Session players like Ian Thomas and Ralph Salmins. Bands/Artists such as Muse, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Herbie Hancock, Jamiroquai, Pantera, Stevie Wonder, Amy Winehouse plus many more that I'm into. Good performers I admire are people like Marilyn Manson, James Brown, Tom Jones, The Rat Pack, Buddy Rich and even Robbie Williams. Big Bands like Count Basie and Duke Ellington. Musical Theatre shows with great music for me are Wicked, Les Miserables and Phantom Of The Opera. Jazz artists such as Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane and Miles Davis. I listen to way too many different styles of music by different people to list them all so I'll just add that World and Classical Music has also been an influence, particularly Classical piano (Chopin, Beethoven). More and more too numerous to mention.
