‘The 5th Annual Show of Hope'
It’s on again at The Valley Studios! A wonderful collection of Queensland performing artists come together in aid of refugees. The fifth annual 'Rock for Refugees' is set to be bigger and better then ever before, with performances from Flamingo Crash, My Fiction, Repeat Offender, Hungry Kids of Hungary, The Reversals, Fushia, LeSuits, DJ’s and live art.
The All Ages event will raise much needed funds for the Brisbane Refugee Claimants Support Centre (RCSC), and will be held on Saturday November 15 at The Valley Studios, Fortitude Valley. Tickets are just $10 (+bf) before the night and $15 at the door and are available from www.oztix.com.au, Rockinghorse, Butterbeats and RCSC.
The Refugee Claimants Support Centre is a Brisbane based not-for-profit community organisation that assists refugee claimants. They provide emergency relief assistance, information and referrals, English language classes as well as assistance with food, employment and health.
Many asylum seekers and clients have appreciated the support and relief that the Centre has provided to them. A former asylum seeker and client of the centre, Abebe Fekadu recently became an Australian citizen, and represented his new country at weightlifting in the Beijing Paralympics.
“It is thanks only to their kindness, those people of Brisbane who provided me with food, shelter and emotional and psychological help for all this time, that I am alive today,†he said.
