OYETTS 1st Birthday 27th of May - R.I.P Thomas
On the 27th of May 2007 my 17 year old cousin Thomas hung himself.
On the 27th of May 2007 I made Open Your Eyes To Teen Suicide.
When i heard that Thomas had killed himself, i instantly knew he must have been hurting so much. Ive been there myself i get what its like I wanted to make a place where everyone matters. Because everyone does matter to me. From there just grown. Ive met so many awesome people whole have become such a huge part of my life. OYETTS is such an awesome community full of caring people.
Believe it or not the first person OYETTS has helped was me. It still continues to help me every day. Im learning new things and the journey has so been worth it. Ive watched it grow before my eyes. I honestly cant believe its nearly been a year since Thomas died, and OYETTS was born.
So im asking everyone!!! - On the 27th of May 2008; Tell someone about OYETTS + Stop by and give love! OYETTS Bebo Celebrate OYETTS's 1st Birthday!!
OYETTS Vistion & MottoOYETTS is all about USEA
You see, USEA stands for Understanding. Support. Education & Awareness.
Understanding.
That means it gives everyone who takes the time to check it out a lil more understanding of whats going on in the world around them. Seeing what people are going thru and hopefully come out of it with a lil more understanding to what people are feeling. Having a lil understanding of what someone is going thru will make it easier to help them or yourself thru it. This is where the weekly discussion comes in....a topic is posted each week and people can talk about it. These topics cover a wide range of issues.
Support.
It gives people the chance to talk about things that have effected them thru their lives. Its not just offerening support to people who are feeling suicidal but it deals with people who have lost people to suicide, even people who havent come across it ever but know that its out there. Its for parents to talk to others about things their teens might be going thru. Its really there to support anyone who needs it. Whats awesome is that its kinda turned into a lil support network of its own. Also giving them info on where to go to talk to "pro's" about it.
Education.
OYETTS is not about encourging suicide nor is if glorifing it. The purpose is to open peoples eyes up. Giving them some info thats needed in order to help deal with every day life and the issues that come along with it. Its there to educate about the warning signs and also to teach about healthy coping recourses. Along with this comes the "babystep procress" its something that i used myself in order to change my life around. As well as teaching healtier coping resources.
Awareness.
This is sheading light on the whole issue in general. Its been swept under the rug because of this sensitive nature. Id like OYETTS to change the way people think about it and remove some of the stigma that comes along with sucidie, depression, self harming and other sad things that eventually lead to suicide.
