Laughing Gravy performs on November 14, 2008 For Musical Celebration of the Stepfather of Country RockGram Parsons was the first Country Rock Star. Before his death in 1973, Gram fused Rock & Roll, Rhythm & Blues, and Country Music creating a sound he called Cosmic American Music.
Gram joined The Byrds in 1968, and contributed to their landmark album, Sweetheart Of The Rodeo. He worked with The Rolling Stones, influencing their sound on Exile On Main Street. Gram formed The Flying Burrito Brothers, and he helped discover Emmylou Harris; she joined his band The Fallen Angels in 1972.
Gram Parsons death in 1973 in Joshua Tree, CA at the age of 26, and the subsequent theft of his body and illegal cremation by his friend Phil Kaufman have helped keep his story alive.
But the true story is Gram’s music; music that has inspired The Eagles, Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt, Wilco, Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle and countless others.Laughing Gravy perform a concert featuring the music of Gram Parsons on Friday night November 14, 2008 at The Last Day Saloon in Santa Rosa (Gram’s birthday is November 5; he would have turned 62) the show begins at 8:30 pm and advance tickets are available at The Last Record Store in Santa Rosa (707-525-1963) Tickets are $8 advance $10 door
