A bit about me.........
I`m a fiddler from the Shetland Islands in the far north of Scotland and was brought up surrounded by some of the worlds finest traditional musicians from a very young age. At age 11, I started fiddle lessons with the legendary teacher and fiddler Tom Anderson and soon after became one of the founding members of his fiddle group Shetland`s Young Heritage.
In 1992 I won the "BBC Radio 2 Young Tradition award" and went on to play in a duo with Scottish piano accordionist Ian Lowthian and subsequently in my own trio with David Milligan and Conrad Ivitsky.I have played with Scottish fiddle band 'Blazin` Fiddles' for the last 10 years. In 2000 I created the female fiddle band 'String Sisters' who have performed at Celtic Connections.I have also enjoyed playing with Scotland`s folk big band 'The Unusual Suspects' for the past few years.
I am a core member of teaching staff on the BMus Folk degree at Newcastle University and regularly take part in workshops at a variety of folk festivals and gatherings.
I count myself as one of the luckiest people in the world. Firstly,I play music that I love.Secondly, I get to meet and work with fellow musicians, the world over, who are just as passionate about their own traditions but continue to challenge themselves with new projects and ideas throughout their musical lives.
