-----------------------------------------------------"Cafe cairo isn't just a cafe, it is an untouchable enigma, much like batman... "Sewn from authentic Egyptian fabric, our tent is a piece of history in itself… Cairo started life as a small cafe touring the green festivals in the mid 90s. We have since been residing in London for ten years, an infamous gem in the back streets of Brixton.
Our glowing incense filled Bedouin tent, live world music, pungent smells of Turkish coffee, fresh mint tea and shisha served as a truly magical escape from the hustle an bustle of city life. Unfortunately, due to our location we were subject to relentless break-ins, burglaries, and finally a violent fire.... so we are rising from the ashes! Taking back to the fields where Cairo began, with the very same tent as years ago (well parts of it!).It all started with a Mr. David Lodge dreaming of bringing a pocket of his much loved Cairo back to England, resulting in a little cafe encompassing all the magic and genuine hospitality of Egypt; cushions and chess boards, authentic Egyptian tea pots, music, stylistic scruffy furniture and decor, candles, feathers and mirrors all serving to transport you to another place in time.Cafe Cairo is all about bringing the heady atmosphere of a Middle-Eastern street cafe to wherever we lay our hats! Our tent provides a safe haven for anyone seeking sanctuary, a perfect nest for the weary, magic and spice for those feeling blue or a bowl of fantastic wholesome food at a good price.
Cairo offers an intimate 24 hour space, with a crew dedicated to making things work and looking after people, intuitively knowing when a hot water bottle or a pot of sweet spicy tea is in need. We are a strong team of multitalented hard working festival creatures passionate about the future of our wonderful cafe.We are presently on the move, putting on community events around and about London including running a soup kitchen and hosting our cafe within large parties. We have been involved with groups such as Fish Seeks Bicycle, Small World, The Synergy Center and Big Green Gathering.
Our choice of entertainment and music reiterates our passion for all things exotic, with a reputable catalogue of world music taken from every corner of the earth; due to David’s amazing riffling through dusty Egyptian cellars.
We also have a wonderful network of fantastic festival musicians established from our days of live music every night at 88 Landor Road. On top of this we have our resident Cairo DJ, the charismatic DJ Malaka, who will open his laptop and pleasure us with Gypsy-Balkan frivolity!
