Cheryl Spector, a Washington-based gay activist, died today after a 10-week battle with leukemia, according to Rainbow History.
Spector’s long list of community involvement included working with AGLA, the Human Rights Campaign, Service League Defense Network and Reel Affirmations.
A majority of her volunteer time had been devoted to the Rainbow History Project, an organization cataloguing gay local history. Spector had amassed a large video and photo archive of gay life in D.C.
Spector, a lesbian, became an AIDS activist in the 1980s after losing her brother to the disease.
A memorial service is tentatively set for September 30 but time and location have not been announced.
