The group is made up of musicians who’ ve known each other for quite a while from previous collaborations. Antonis founded the Amoebas as a band made up of a large collective of musicians, to take advantage of the possibilities presented by different ensemble configurations. The band is named after the first composition, that is almost an hour long and is recorded on the 1st CD. In the winter of 2001, Amoebas won a studioprize from the Cultural Senate of Berlin, which financed the 1st recording (Antonis Anissegos' Amoebas 5: Amoebas), that was recorded in Loft/Cologne. The formation was: Christian Weidner & Hayden Chisholm (alt sax), Antonis Anissegos (piano, comp.), Oliver Potratz (bass), Sebastian Merk (drums). The 1st CD was released on KONNEX Records.Amoebas performed in Germany, Austria, Hungary and South Korea.
