Little Martinez aka. Oliver Martinez was born in Basel, Switzerland on the Valentines-Day, 14th February 1983. He then moved back to his home country, Spain, where he stayed till he was 4 years old. Even as a child he could only sleep with music. As he was four years old he then moved back to his birthplace, Basel. Not much time passed till he was totally engaged in music – he was nine years old when he first was a DJ at the Robinson Playground in Birsfelden. With twelve years of age he then lost his enthusiasm for music and dedicated his spare time to soccer. For two years Oliver hadn’t been a DJ when he then, together with a youth worker, started organizing and DJing at parties in a youth club in Birsfelden twice a month. For the young Spanish mixing CDs soon wasn’t enough – he wanted to mix just as the older DJs do, with proper record players. The youth club “Kaffi Lavater†offered him the possibility to rent a disco-room. With the age of 16 Martinez then used this opportunity with great success, just as in the first youth club, now organized Parties in the “Kaffi Lava†for the youth in his hometown. His Parties were always packed with people and Oliver also mixed at parties all around his neighborhood. He was soon known as Mr.Martinez in the whole of Birsfelden. He mixed at open-air parties, organized school-parties and helped youth workers to great events all the time. He still didn’t do his work outside of the city’s border though until then. Oliver wanted more. He then got the possibility to mix at the popular “Spanish House†party at the “..†club in Basel in March 99. He was fascinated by the crowd around his set. And even though he could hardly reach over the mixing table he knew how to get the crowd hot!! With the age of 16 he then got a job as journalist with in a TV show called Mash-TV on local TV station “Telebasel†in October ’99. He now had the opportunity to report on the scene in Basel and could meet well known people and DJs from Basel such as Pino Arduini, DJ Antoine, DJ Peeza and many more. Using his DJ name “DJ Martinez†he already organized many events, but he still missed THE event. “The Fresh Organization†was born and organized a party with the well known DJs from the party scene Pino Arduini, Ed Luis, Oliver K and as special guest the British DJ Grant Nelson was flown in. This was the first party Oliver mixed as “DJ Little Martinezâ€. It was just a matter of time until Little Martinez would mix again. Quickly Little Martinez made himself a name in the scene and played in clubs such as the .. Club, La Luna, Amalur, Kuppel, Babalabar and at many important events such as the Deepdance, Nautilus, Ice Dance and the Groove Lift in the Propaganda club. Little Martinez has now started to work together with Pino Arduini. The internationally known DJ liked the style of Little Martinez. He was given his own gigs in the clubs Borderline, Queens, Propaganda and Saxophon. All of which have a big name in the Basel club scene. Again Oliver wanted more than only being a club DJ and a TV-Show host/journalist. He now started his first experience with Radio and is now a presenter in the radio show “Treibhouse†on Radio X 95.5. To start mixing outside of Basel, Little Martinez started to organize road trips with coaches to clubs throughout the whole of Switzerland such as the Pravda, Loft and Casineum in Lucerne, Q Club, BBQ and Sugar Lounge in Zurich, Castellino and Lifting Club in Biel just to name a few. These clubs are also the ones that Little Martinez mixes and gets the people hot! With his self-founded party-labels “Bikini Patrol†and “Little Mania†he now organizes parties in and around Basel with great success. Clubs include the Bar Rouge and Borderline. Little Martinez was nominated as “Best National Newcomer DJ†in 2005. At the moment he’s a resident DJ at the well known RED Sessions (in Basel) and he’s also assembling his own music studio together with his partner Daven.Sopla Records 71: Coming soon
