You need chaos in your soul to give birth to a dancing star. --Nietzsche

About Me

This is my top five all-time list:
1. Pink Floyd
Jazz influence and a good saxophonist, plus…it’s Pink Floyd. Music wouldn’t be where it is today without Dark Side, although my favorite album teeters between Wish You were Here and Animals…and Meddle, come to think of it. The Wall has its perks, but it’s not as, I don’t know…epic?
2. Crosby, Stills, and Nash (CSN)
Sometimes these guys also include Neil Young. One of their songs, Carry On, is featured in the ads for We Are Marshall. Great harmonies, great tunes, great musicianship all around. These guys are amazing and they switch in and out of first and second place with floyd, depending on the day.
3. Radiohead
I have always said that they’re the Pink Floyd of our generation. I love that they are so transient in their style; every album is an entirely different experience. In fact, they’re practically a different band with each new album. I cannot WAIT until they put out a new one.
4. Miles Davis
I adore jazz. I play the saxophone and have since I was 11. Miles was like my birth into jazz; all his improv is so original and it’s different every single time I hear it. Kind of Blue is a classic album and Bitches’ Brew is pretty much incredible. I heard that he recorded that after seeing Hendrix at Woodstock---the entire album is improvised. Amazing.
5. The #5 slot is always the most difficult for me to fill because there are so many bands out there, so many possibilities! I am going to have to go safe with this one and say the Beatles. I mean, come on---these guys were only together 7 years, and look at all the incredible stuff they did! I’d say that they single-handedly changed music forever when they started experimenting with sounds and, let’s face it, acid.
