About Me

See more art at howiekeck.com.... Howie Keck has always had one dream,to paint the wildest, most beautiful art form on the planet. Drawing inspiration from all forms of media and popular culture, he creates lush, hyper-colored, larger than life, paintings that overflow with vibrant imagery. Always experimenting with different materials and techniques, Howie's work is always evolving. In the month of May in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Howie Keck was born,a media baby in the "Age of Television", eagerly devouring the constant barrage of pop culture imagery that was force fed him on a daily basis. His childhood was split between Chicago and rural Michigan, and was exposed to the big city and the country life at an early age. This provided for an equal love of nature, architecture, and media culture. The imagery that he was barraged with in his early years influenced the direction of his lifes work.Throughout high school and college, Howie worked painting for sign/billboard companies while working weekends at the local Cineplex. It was during this time that he developed his large-scale abilities, while constantly drawing realistic imagery from the world around him. Howie attended Western Michigan University and graduated with degrees in Fine Art and Business. At this time he was exposed to a myriad of art, everything from photography, to printmaking and sculpture, further solidifying his career choice. In 1983, he packed up and moved to Houston, Texas, to develop his art/self in the warm Texas sunshine. In his new studio, Howie started to produce his own large-scale work. To satisfy his desire to make huge drawings, he created black and white airbrushed media related paintings, first on foam board, then on canvas. While visiting the large nightclubs of Houston, Howie saw the need there for his entertainment art form and started leasing his paintings to them. This exposure lead to work with special event and public relations companies. He began designing and painting large-scale artwork for every major gala event in Houston, including the Winter Ball for President and Barbara Bush. Also, from here, Howie started to create painted decor for ballrooms of the Grand Hyatt Hotels in Asia.During this time period Keck began adding fluorescent and metallic colors to his paintings and gained a detailed understanding of how the materials would respond to modern club lighting and the public's reactions to his imagery. Also during this period he returned to oil painting with brushes, a skill that he developed during his college years. With every new project, Howie experimented with various mediums and painting techniques and developed the skills that would prepare him for his ultimate move to NEW YORK CITY!!!In 1991 Howie started showing his Media Mayhem shows in the New York hotspot, the Sound Factory. This exposure led to a three-month project, painting futuristic billboards on the walls of Club USA, located in Times Square. In 1994, he decided to make the move to New York permanent. He moved into a studio located above the Sound Factory where he continued his work with nightclubs and events, as well as his passion for oil painting. Soon Howie Keck had become an infamous underground NYC artist working for every major nightclub in NYC and designing gala events all over the world.Over the years Howie has created a huge and varied body of work that has opened up many new opportunities and experiences. Celebrities such as Madonna, Britney Spears, and Robert Downey Jr. have utilized this artistic creations. His work has been shown in association with world famous DJ's such as Jr. Vasquez, Victor Calderone and David Waxman and the fabulous dance floor diva Kevin Aviance. He has painted Homoerotic Hell for the SoundFactory in New York while also painting murals for the Republican Convention, then protesting that same convention with ACT UP. He has hosted the "Party of Life" in 1995 for the Keith Haring Foundation, and in the past few years painted the dancers for both Britney Spears and N'SYNC for the MTV Video Awards. and his art studio has been profiled on CNN's Showbiz Today.Today Keck paints a continuous stream of paintings that have reached the farthest corners of this planet, all to nourish the artist's glorious quest of self-expression by pairing his mastery of realistic painting and surrealistic way of thinking.................................................... ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ................SELECTION OF OIL PAINTINGS
